International Masturbation Month
International Masturbation Month is celebrated in May, first thought up by sex toy company Good Vibrations 19 years ago in San Francisco.
In 1995, Dr Joycelyn Elders said that masturbation should be discussed as part of young people’s sex education. She was then fired for it. Talk about unfair dismissal! Good Vibrations quite rightly thought that masturbation needed to be celebrated more, and then came (excuse the pun) National Masturbation Month which has since expanded across the globe to International Masturbation Month (IMM).
“We gave our heads a shake and said it’s about time we fought back. That’s when we founded National Masturbation Day.” – Sexologist Dr Carol Queen
What are the benefits of masturbation?
I’m sure you know most of the benefits already, but here’s a few.
It is said in many mental health circles that masturbation can relieve depression and lead to a higher sense of self-esteem.
You can show your partner where and how you like to be touched.
If your partner does not want sex as frequently, masturbation can help to balance the relationship.
You get to know your body better so can notice any changes
Masturbation is an expression of self loving
Masturbation is pleasurable, rejuvenating and fun
Masturbation relieves stress
Masturbation is the ultimate safe sex
A 2008 study at Tabriz Medical University found ejaculation reduces swollen nasal blood vessels, freeing the airway for normal breathing.
Masturbation can cause drowsiness so helps with restlessness.
Masturbation can lower blood pressure.
Masturbation can increase pelvic floor strength.
Masturbation increases sexual awareness
Women who masturbate regularly increase their resistance to yeast infections
Men who masturbate build resistance to prostate gland infection
You have no chance of pregnancy or STIs (unless mutual masturbation)
Are you still here or have you gone to wank?
Speaking of wanking..
It’s International Masturbation Month so I’m asking you, how many names can you think of for masturbating?

Let’s see how long a list we can create..
2. Having a visit from Mistress Palm and her five lovely daughters (@innocentloverboy)
3. Fapping (@mcbitchytits)
4. Bath the Bishop (@GrumpyGuy)
5. Flog the Dolphin
6. Choke the Chicken
7. Flicking the bean (@CupcakeMumma11)
I’m sure you can think of more than that, tweet me!
How much of a wanker are you?
There should be no shame in masturbation. However some terms can be demeaning, being called a wanker is hardly a compliment is it? We all are though. So stand up, be proud and say after me “I am a wanker!”
So what are you waiting for?
Go have some fun, celebrate your sexuality, whether it be with your hands, a toy, or your partners, enjoy yourself!
